Waverly Hills Sanitarium -

Built in 1902 in Kentucky Waverly Hills Sanatorium has been listed has one of the most haunted buildings in America. When the hospital opened there was an epidemic of tuberculosis in the area and the new hospital was used to tend to those infected with the disease. As there was no antibiotics for the treatment of tuberculosis at the time many patients were given treatments that were yet to be properly tested causing many to die. In total 8,212 patients died in the sanatorium before it closed in 1961.

There have been dozens of reported paranormal occurrences within the walls of the sanatorium. Most of these occurrences occur within Room 502 which is believed to be the most haunted part of the hospital. After finding out that she was unmarried and pregnant by the owner of the hospital as well as being infected with tuberculosis a nurse committed suicide by hanging herself outside room 502. It’s said that she still haunts that part of the building.

Other ghosts include a little boy who has been seen in the corridors bouncing a ball, a little girl in the third floor solarium who tries to convince visitors to play hide and seek with her and an old woman who runs screaming near the entrance of the hospital with her hands and feet chained and bleeding. People have also reported apparitions of unidentified patients, cold spots, unexplainable screaming and wailing, floating balls of light, the lights turning on even though electricity has been shut off in the building, human shaped shadows have been seen and the doors slam shut on their own. A phantom hearse has also been seen on the grounds collecting caskets.
